Elizabeth MATTHEWS bap. 1837 Independent NC, Edge Hill (reply)

There was a little corrugated iron chapel building on the first bend, going down the hill from Fairplay (the Top) towards Mitcheldean. It was on the left hand side immediately after the first two cottages. Tom Gibbs Headmaster of Steam Mills Primary School was one of the leading lights there.
After his demise and during the last few years the chapel fell into
disrepair and was demolished.

Elizabeth MATTHEWS bap. 1837 Independent NC, Edge Hill

Good Afternoon,

I am emailing in the hope that you are able to solve a little puzzle for a fellow researcher.

An ancestor of his came from the Forest of Dean and the details he has are as follows:

Elizabeth MATTHEWS (c1836) bap. 22 Jan. 1837 @ Independent NC, Edge Hill, (Plump Hill), Micheldean

Elizabeth married Thomas COLLIER (c1838) of Gloster on 28 Sept. 1856 at Westbury on Severn

Elizabeth's Parents were Joseph (1814 - 1855 & Matilda (c?) and they had a son, William c1835

My question is regarding the Baptism of Elizabeth Matthews in 1837 at Edge Hill.

Where would the Independent NC Chapel (Edge Hill) have been recognising that Abenhall Methodist didn't start until 1842 ??

And furthermore, where are the records held (Glos Archives perhaps), assuming that they exist ??

Trusting that you can oblige.

Kindest regards,

Keith Urch
Newent
