Dear slowhands, thank you so much for the info you sent me. The Susannah you found is indeed the one I was looking for, I was barking up the wrong tree when I thought she came from the forest, the information you gave is the same as I have found, except you have found her maiden name and husband which I didnt. Am sorry so late in replying, but gave up on the forest link.Thanks once again for the info,I can now try to go back in time. Regards Elaine

Shropshire seems to be indicated rather than Gloucestershire

I wonder if this is her marriage ? Although it is somewhat South of the Soudley's

Hello Elaine,

If I was researching her, first port of call would be the IGI at your local library, or do a search of the IGI on the Net. You'll get an idea of Mason's in Gloucestershire and in which parishes. With a bit of luck she may be on the IGI. I noticed earlier this afternoon that the name Mason features in nearby Monmouthshire also.

Just had a quick look. There was a Susanna Mason christened 3Mch1765 at Newent, Glos.

Hi Roger. She appears on the 1851 census living outside Worcestershire with her son John. Her place of birth is recorded as Soudley. Thanks Elaine

Can you amplify. How do you know Susannah was born in Soudley? Then, the Forest in general was extra-Parochial, ie not included in the CofE parochial system. It was, as the Russian's say, an inhabited area, not populated densely enough for parishes . For some time into the future, Forest folks had to use St Peter's, Newnham, Westbury on Severn or All Saints, Newland. Only the last recorded particular secondaries such as Newland Bream or Newland Redbrook etc.

I am trying to find out anything about Susannah Mason born 1765 in Soudley. I dont know if she was married as I cant find a reference to a husband. She had a son called John Mason who married a girl called Emma. They moved to the Worcestershire area, then later up to Royton in Lancashire. Any help much appreciated.
