I`ve just looked at both the parish register and also the BTs, in the BTs the marriage is clearly between Philip EDWARDS and Mary TINGLE. Unfortunately the top of the page is cut off in the parish register, but in the signature box the name is Philip Evans. We are currently doing a comparison between the BTs and PRs for Mitcheldean, so I will need to rephotograph this page from the parish register. Sorry I can`t give a more definite answer.

So it's a definite possibility that the Mary in question who married Philip EDWARDS was Mary TINGLE (also written TYNGLE). Philip is recorded as EDWARDS in every other record other than the marriage where EVANS slips in! The family settled in Green Bottom.

I'm connected to this line and have been wondering if Mary wife of Philip EDWARDS is Mary Tyngle, daughter of William Tyngle and his wife Mary, baptised June 9th 1789 at Abenhall.

There is a marriage record, transcription is: Mary TINGLE to a Philip EVANS in 1812, in Mitcheldean. Long shot, but could EVANS be a mistranscription for EDWARDS? The date and region are right as the couple began baptising children at Abenhall around 1815.

It could well be the correct Mary as the date ties in along with the area.

I found the marriage for Philip Edwards and Mary Protheroe on family search .org, this is why I was presuming that her maiden name was Protheroe. Unless she was married before to a Protheroe?

She does give her place of birth as being Abinghall on the 1851 census.. very confusing.

On the family search .org it states that the marriage was 23 Dec 1814, do you think it could be the same couple?

I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me. I'm trying to find any information about Mary Protheroe who was born about 1791 Abenhall, Gloucestershire. I've searched wherever I can think of searching to find her parents names, but have had no luck whatsoever.

I know she married Philip Edwards on the 23 Oct 1814 at Monmouth (Philip Edwards was from Monmouthshire) and in 1841 and 1851 they were living at East Dean, Gloucestershire.

How on earth do I find out who she was or where she came from? I thought I might have been able to find something for her or her family on your fantastic site, but don't seem to have had much luck.

Any advice or where to look next would be much appreciated or if there are any others looking for Protheroe's it would be great to hear from you.
