Yes very curious Slowhands... so coincidental that the informant is a Maria too isn't it.. I flumoxed, can't see anything that jumps out at me on the 1851 census :(

btw death was 13 October 1841, so not so long after.

can't see a marriage in indexes for 1841 either:(

FREEMAN family , Abergavenny (reply)

Hi

Just to update this thread in case anyone else should ever research this family:)

I have received the death certificate for 1841 and it is actually the death of the daughter Maria Freeman born in c 1831/1832, informant is Maria Evans present at the death. Yippe I thought mum has remarried then, but then I noticed occupation says 'daughter of Maria Freeman sempstress'. Does this mean then that Maria Evans is not the remarried Maria Freeman, or has this occupation been filled to distinguish why a different name to Maria Evans...not so sure about that though... surely they would have put 'Maria Evans, mother' as the informant instead....

btw address is Monk Street, Abergavenny for both 10 year old Maria at death, and Maria Evans the informant.
Much more hunting to do to find mum Maria then? :(

Thanks Slowhands. I think you are probably right. Ann had a son in the workhouse in 1852, so perhaps she was already living there :(

Do you know which enumeration district the Monmouth workhouse is in 1851?

Freeman family missing in 1851, monmouth?

Hi

I have Ann Freeman b c 1827, Abergavenny, she married James Wright b c 1798 at Newland, no fathers named.
I am absolutely fine with Ann on census returns 1861 onwards, but can't find her in 1851. She had a son Thomas in 1852 Monmouth, so must be around somewhere:(
previous threads

http://www.forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?id=6552
http://www.forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?id=6745

I have a researched a couple of possibles for her. There is one at Llanfoist I don't believe is her because she is daughter to William and Elizabeth and on later census Ann is still with them but married to Mr Walby.

The other I have and feel is her is in Abergavenny 1841

HO107; Piece 742; Book: 11; Civil Parish: Abergavenny; County: Monmouthshire; Enumeration District: 4; Folio: 38; Page: 18

Name Name
Maria Freeman 35
Ann Freeman 14
Elenor Freeman 12
Maria Freeman 9
Emily Freeman 3

On this census Ann, Elenor, and their mum were born out of county, and Ann has put both Coleford and Abergavenny as her birthplace on different census returns, although not sure what the place name is on the 1871, could be Abergavveny?
RG10; Piece: 5298; Folio: 98; Page: 5;

Ann had a daughter and named her Hannah Maria, so the name Maria is there. I can't find this family on any later census.. I wondered if mum could also be Hannah Maria but just using Maria, but still can't find anything.. There is a death in Dec q 1841 for Maria Freeman which could either the mum or daughter..
Wonder if mum remarried? Have tried to find other marriages for daughters but struggling all the time..

Going round in circles, can a fresh pair of eyes see anything... pretty please :)

Thanks

Simone x
