This has been very useful to me. My great grandfather was George Partridge Simmonds - so thanks to this thread I've managed to go back to 1795 (via John b. 1831 to William b.1795.)

George P. Simmonds and his family uprooted to Hartlebury in Worcesterhire following George in his trade as a stationary steam engine operator at Willden ironworks nr. Stourport.

My grandfather, George H. Simmonds went on to work his way up to the post of relief stationmaster with the GWR at Birmingham's Snow Hill station. One of his brothers, another Cornelius Simmonds, followed in his father's role as the engine operator at the ironworks.

Olwen was my nana , i only have her small orginal birth cert, which tells me she was born on the 4th of july 1918 in the Forrest of Dean.
her sibs were

Arthur
Lillian May was the eldest she died age 6 and is buried next to her Dad John Simmonds
the youngest was Nancy she married a M Bevan died age 27

Thank you for your kind and helpful reply, may be i can take my line back a little more thanks to the information you have given me, i have no idea if they were non conformist ?

John Simmonds settled in Newbridge in wales and married a local lass called Elizabeth Wyde, one of their offspring became my grandmother Olwen who was not the oldest of their 11, but came around the middle and was born in the Forest Of Dean in 1914. she was brought up Chaple!
As for William i only know that he was a shingler and married a Mary Green.

Looking for information on the Simmonds Family of Peterstow/ Lydbrook, my grt grandfather was John Simmonds born 8th of may 1881 son of William Simmonds and Mary Green , can not find them in the parish records for Lydbrook, has anyone any ideas where to look next?
