So probably they didn't register the birth in the time frame so gave a date of birth that would fit in. Nothing surpises me about this family!

does it make sense ? (reply)

It doesn't make sense.

Sometimes the census records lead us to "believe" a situation that does not fit with other records.

As with all research the more sources you have the better your conclusion can be :-)

In this case is the Birth Cert recording a birth after the census or a registration after the census ? was/is there a 3 month period grace between birth and registration ?

Harriet POWELL BLUNT 1864 Glamorgan (reply)

Thanks again for all the info.

Yes. That's where I fit in. My gt grandfather Charles Cousins married Amelia Powell (Blunt!).I have her birth certificate for 23 April 1861 yet the census was on 7 April 1861 when she was supposed to be 2 months old. How can that be?

Her parents are Philip Powell and Maria Pugsley. Maria then has Harriet and Charles Mason Powell. Was she having children for her sister Elizabeth who was married to Charles Mason? If Philip leaves her why would she keep his children and not her own. It doesn't make sense.

Philip BLUNT / POWELL 1822 Chepstow area -> Cardiff (reply)

Thank you. How did you find out all that info. so quickly. I think Philip Blunt is Philip Powell in 1861 therefore the 3 older children living with him in the 1861 census were probably born Blunt. I can't find the third child Eliza (or Elizbath) born Newport but there are a Mary and Philip Blunt born the right time and Blunt doesn't seem to be a common name.

Philip Blunt born 1822 Hewelsfield

I am researching Philip Blunt b1822 in Hewelsfield. I have found he was the illegitimate child of Ann Blunt. An Anne Blunt dies in 1828 in Hewelsfield so it looks like he would have been orphaned. Does anyone know where such a child would be sent? Was there a Poor House or Orphanage in the Forest of Dean? If so are there records available?

This is the background.

Philip Blunt is working in Hewelsfield in 1841 and then he disappears and I cannot find a death record. In 1861 up pops Philip Powell (b1822 Woolaston) in Canton, Cardiff. He then disappears and no death record.I have had some research done and there is no record of a Philip Powell being born in Woolaston at the time.

In 1871 Philip Powell's daughter is on the census as Harriet Powell Blunt which is where I made the connection.

Any help of where I can go from here would be appreciated.
