Fred Lucas & Radio House High Street Cindeford (reply)

I remember Fred Lucas's Radio House which was situated in the upper part of High St just below the upper Co-op grocery shop in what was known locally as the "bottleneck" because the road there was very narrow, just below was Miss Youngs ladies hairdressers. My father purchased an HMV Radiogram from this shop pre the 2nd World War and I purchased records from there,of course at that time they were 78's and I still have some in my posession. The opposite side of High St was demolished later to widen the road and is now the widest part of the High St.

Fred Lucas & Radio House High Street Cindeford

Hi first post, my grandmothers brother, Fred Lucas, was the chauffer to the archbishop of Canterbury on his tour of France in WW1, he met flossie who came from the Forest of Dean in Hampton Middlesex, & married her moving to Cindeford where he ran a bicycle/radio shop in the 1930's/1940's. They lived above 'Radio House' High street Cindeford. They had two daughters Marjorie and Audrey Lucas. Does anyone have a photograph of the shop in Cindeford High Street, any idea what is there now or have any recollection of that Lucas family? My father has lost contact in recent years with Audrey our last contact. I m visiting the Forest for a family holiday next week & will visit Cindeford.

Thank you to anyone with any information

David
