HADDOCK/RAWLINS (reply)

sue

I think the 'Advanced Search' on this site is excellent, and does throw up 'bits' of information.

William HADDOCK was a witness at a wedding in Chepstow, Monmouth in 1773 to a Elizabeth RAWLINS and James YOUNG.

also

On the 3 April 1809 in Monmouth,

Cath SHELLARD (Widow) married William KNIGHT

witnesses: illegible ROWLAND and Dorothy HADDOCK

Dorothy was born 16 February 1783 in Ruardean : daughter of Richard & Margaret HADDOCK

Cath/Kitty was christened 11 March 1781 again daughter of Richard & Margaret

There has been a lot of discussion on this site about RAWLINS/ROLLINGS/HADDOCK etc. so a 'puzzle'

HADDOCK (reply)

Richard HADDOCK married Margaret NURSE in 1780 Ruardean - so far, his place of birth has not been found by a number of HADDOCK researchers.

Thomas HADDOCK married Mary POWELL in Monmouth 1775 - perhaps a copy of this marriage would give witness names !!!!

So 'assume' Richard and Thomas are brothers????

And therefore as Benjamin was a witness at my x Grandparents wedding (John THOMAS and Elizabeth HADDOCK) he could be Elizabeth's Cousin.

re: POWELL

My Grandfather was given his Grandmother's maiden name (William Edmund BURROWS WICKENDEN) - his father or uncle did not carry this Burrows name, neither were any of my Grandfather's male siblings)

I've some 'old notes' from a HADDOCK researcher

'she had penciled in a William HADDOCK b 1688 up North Winwick or Backberrow - d English Bicknor 1788 m Dorothy b 1696 d 1756'

The Monmouth baptisms seem to have disappeared 'off the net' - think there has been problems with Gwent Register Office ?

HADDOCK (reply)

Hi, thanks for this information but I am still not sure who Benjamin HADDOCK is related to.

Sophia HADDOCK, wife of Benjamin, was buried on 5 Jul 1816 aged 34. The address given was Pentyrch, Glam. Benjamin then seems to have married Harriet and had a number of chilren whilst living at Hawthorn, Whitchurch, Glam. Their first child Benjamin Powell HADDOCK was baptised 17 Jun 1825 at Melin Griffith, Glam. Where does the second name Powell come from. I know that Thomas HADDOCK married Mary POWELL 14 Feb 1775, so is there some connection I wonder? All these details are from the registers of the Parish Church of St Mary, Whitchurch, Glamorgan.

I have been trying to connect this Benjamin HADDOCK, who on the 1851 census gave his place of birth as Monmouth, but am struggling to find his baptism or parents.

Regards
Sue Bell
