Herbert Henry SHILLAM 1894-1932 Inquest - Newspaper Record? (reply)

Oh yes, local newspapers were and are a goldmine of information. It does take a bit or a lot of digging however.

A brother of my grandfather was injured in a pit accident in South wales on 10th February, 1904. He survived but with the TB he was already suffering from was invalided back to Soudley FoD in September, where he died on 23rd November. Inquest was held at White Horse Pub, Soudley on 2nd December, adjourned until 22nd December. However, must have been adjourned again as actual Inquest was held 20th January, 1905.

I had to trawl many copies of the Dean Forest Mercury for this information. DFM was not the only newspaper and all this at BM Newspaper Library, Colindale. I lived 40 or 50 miles away.
