Hello John. I’m new here. I came across this thread as I’m researching my family tree. Cornelius was my 4th Great Grandfather on my dads side of the family.

I believe Cornelius was one of four siblings of Richard Brain (1761-1831)

George
Ephraim
Mary

I hope this helps.
Any further information you may have on the Brain family would help or any distant relatives of mine I would love to hear from you.

John LeonardTaylor ? born around 1975 I fear this is too recent and will conflict with the Message Boards charter. sorry

Cornelius BRAIN 1848 Varnester, Ruardean (reply)

A fellow researcher of the Baldwin Family, who I have corresponded with on a number of occassions picked up on this thread and sent me an image of Samuel Baldwins Grave Stone, which indicates that Samuel died 3 Dec 1887, was buried in Holy Trinity Church, Drybrook 7 December 1887. On the same gravestone are the deaths of his children :
George 1 & half years
Cornelius 10 years
William 25 years
and importantly here Sarah Ann 37 years.

So, Sarah Ann was living back with her family in 1881 according to the census. I would surmise that after a parting of the ways, Cornelius Brain then started living with Maria Hatton, he was living as a boarder in 1881. First child with Maria 1879. Sarah Ann dies aged 37 in 1886 and Cornelius marries Maria Hatton in 1888.

It's almost like being there !!

Cornelius BRAIN b. 1848 (reply)

To add to the usual superb input from Slowhands. I think you will find that Cornelius Brain remarried or lived with Maria from 1878 not 1888 as they have children together from 1879. I didn't know her surname previously and would be grateful for any information you have on her father as I have a number of Hattons in my Family Tree, I note from Slowhands that her mother was Hester - see below.

Slowhands has shown that Cornelius was a boarder in 1881. At the same time Sarah Ann nee Baldwin was back with her parents in 1881 :

Getting back to Maria Hatton. In my Family Tree I have a William & Hester Hatton, they had a Mary Hatton 1845 - too old, but perhaps there is a connection. This family is in my Family Tree as her sister Fanny married James Brain 1847, their daughter Minnie Maria Brain married John Marfell and they lived at one time at Euroclydon and I have a picture of a Family gathering on the front lawn of that house, built by Thomas Bennett Brain. I am not sure if I have submitted it as a photo, but I should:
