If you look at my previous messages : Jabez HOPES is on the 1861 Census, Gloucestershire, Bitton - Grandson age 2 - mother Louisa (age 20) - daughter of William & Sarah HOPES. Also states: When Jabez HOPE married married 25 December 1879 Drybrook, (on FOD records) he gave his mother's name as Louisa. On the 1881 census, Jabez says he was born Bristol Oldlands Common (which ties up with the 1861 census) Bitton is in the Parish Keynsham (Diocese of Bristol)

I am the granddaughter of Jabez & Jane Hope, daughter of Harry (DOB 12/31/1899). The name was changed to Hopes upon arrival in America. Here is what information I have. If anyone can provide further information it would be appreciated.

Married: Church of Holy Trinity, Forest of Dean 12/25/1879.
Jabez: Born 02/28/1859. Died: 01/1931
Jane Pritchard: Born 11/01/1858. Died: December 1933

Children:
George: Born 05/06/1880 Gloustershire, Eng. (No date of death)

Agnes: Born 11/26/1881, Gloustershire, Eng. (No date of death)

Jabez: Born 12/08/1882, Blaina, Wales (No date of death).

William: Born 05/09/1884 Blaina Wales Died: 02/1923 (Murdered)
Married: Margaret (unknown last name).

Ellen: (AKA Nellie) Born 10/14/1885 Blaina, Wales (No date of death)

On the 1861 Census, 52 Westgate Street, Glos. St Nicholas, Elizabeth HOPE is aged 73, c 1788 born Westbury, Glos, and lodging with a Thos. J Banks, wife (Leather Seller)

I've looked (as best I could) at the Gloucestershire Baptism Index 1813-1837 for HOPE or even HOPES - no children of a William & Elizabeth.

Gloucestershire Marriage Index 1800-1837, only found William HOPE, St Catherine St John the Baptist married Elizabeth HARRIS (wid) 23 December 1830 Banns (Lydia was in St Catherine 1851 census)

It is more than possible, William HOPE was married before.... as if you use the advanced search of the FOD records, we have this at Ross-on-Wye

Children of William & Sarah (who is listed either as a Carpenter/Joiner/Inn holder/Ale Seller)

Mary - 12 May 1816
John - 8 May 1818
Susanna - 6 December 1819
Ann - 21 September 1821
William - 4 June 1823 (on the 1851 census, in Kingswood, William HOPE is age 27 c 1824)

so I think Lydia (c1830) and Hannah are from his second marriage.

Marriage on LDS - William HOPE married Sarah TRUPP 7 December 1813, Ross on Wye also on FOD records.

Fortunately, Jabez gave his mother's name as Louisa, and on the 1881 Census, says he was born Oldham( Oldland) Common took some finding....

Looking at the 1851 census, William & Sarah HOPES are in Bitton, along with their family and list a William HOPES age 13 - no sign of Louisa, this could be Jabez as his Son William was age 6 (previous census)

My G.G.G.G. Great Grandparents are buried behind church in Newent. Thomas and Lydia Hope.
Thomas was born about 1747 and died 3 dec 1815. Lydia was born about 1753 and died about 7 june 1829.
my G.G.G. Great Grandparents were William Hope Born: ABT 1788 Died: 18 JUL 1849 - Saint Nicholas, Gloucester and Elizabeth ?? Born: ABT 1792 - westbury on Severn
Died: 10 FEB 1875 - church buildings, saint Nicholas
my G.G. Great Grandfather was William Hope Born: ABT 1824 - westbury on severn, gloucester. Marr: 11 DEC 1847 - old swinford, worcester Died: 30 APR 1890 - Bell Street, Brierley Hill

I know my G.G Great and G.G.G. Great grandfathers were carpenters and have Gloucestershire court and jail records of when they stole another carpenters tools.
I think Lydia was Lydia Lewis

Family tended to live around Staunton near Newent, Newent, Westbury on Severn and Oxenhall

Does anyone have any information on these family members or the Hope Family?
