Without having the first wife's christian name, it makes it difficult to find the marriage. However this death is on the Parish Records - could it be her? Maybe the age is wrong and it is only a few months after the 1911 Census was taken when he was single. However, it could be his mother or another relative I suppose, as in the Memoranda Gorsty Knoll is mentioned.

Yes it looks like the marriage was outside the Forest of Dean, I did look at FreeBMD and the nearest marriage for James Russell was Newport and Pontypridd, Monmouthshire, but it could be anywhere?

Hi Sheila
I have the 1911 census It is the James Russell Iam looking for .
James jioned G company 2nd Battalion Monmouthshire Regimemt .He was mobilised on 4th November 1914 & landed @ Le Havre France on 7th November 1914.He was wounded 2 or 3 times ,After recovery & recuperation was posted 2nd line Battalion -2/2 Monmouths based in Suffolk .Met his second wife in Norwich, they married @ Norwich on 1st July 1916 ,
His first wife was a local girl from Sling ? She may have died between 1914-15
The second Marriage Cert-stated that James was A widower.

Have checked the marriage records from 1911 to 1916 but cannot find him in the Forest of Dean area. The only one I have come up with so far is James M Russell m Lilian M A Ainge in Dec quarter 1923, Monmouth 11a 71. I presume he was married a second time as you want to know his first wife's details. When was he married the second time and who to and where? Maybe he was married further afield in Monmouthshire or Gloucestershire. Let us have more information if you have it.
