<title>The Gage Library (reply)</title>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Gage Library contains over 18,000 historic records and archives and is the perfect place to search out local history enquiries or trace your family history roots.<br />
 <br />
Opened in 1995, it provides a local history centre for the Forest of Dean. It houses a major bequest from Laurie Gage, an antiquarian book dealer with a great personal interest in the area.<br />
 <br />
Local historians will be more than happy to help you with any research questions you may have.<br />
 <br />
The Gage Library is open to the public on Monday and Wednesday afternoon's between 2pm-4pm. Telephoning for an appointment is recommended.</p>

<p>New Road Level No. 2  - Owner and Postal Address: T &amp; M Fox, Barnhill, Coleford, 6 workers underground, 3 surface, - sold to A W Brown - Dec 1896</p>

Old Furnace No. 1 Coleford - Owner and Postal Address : Wimberry Colliery, N J Trotter, Manager - Joshua HAWKINS, 30 men underground, 11 surface</p>
<p>1891 Census, Coleford - District 19<br />
West Dean</p>
<p>Ann HAWKINS Widow Age 76, born Staunton<br />
Joshua HAWKINS, Age 35-  Checkweighman - born West Dean<br />
Thomas HAWKINS, age 31 - Colliery Labourer, born West Dean</p>
<p>1891 census for the same District, there are many men (Including William POWELL age 81)  and boys (from 15 yrs) listed as Coal Miners.  There is also a James ASTON age 65, listed as a Colliery Manager.  By looking at all census returns from 1841 onwards one would get a list of coal miners living in the area - if there are no other records available.</p>
<p>On the 1901 Census, Wales, Monmouthshire,West Dean,  Hedge End, Joshua is a Colliery Proprietor and Employer </p>

<title>Cannop Mine records</title>

Would anyone be able to tell me if Cannop Mine kept any records of the men who worked there in the late 1800's - 1914.   <br />
