Edde Cross Street, Ross-on-Wye (reply)

EDDE CROSS (is this possibly EARL GREY entry ?)

would probably be written Edde Crofs so not too far a stretch to the transcription of Earle Grey !

Edde Cross Street, Ross-on-Wye, runs north - south from the junction between the High Street and Wilton Road down to where it becomes Trenchard Street at the point where Kyrle Street joins it although there is evidence that Trenchard Street used to extend right up to where New Street joins Edde Cross Street.

PEMBER children - Mary Sophia (b1862), James John (b1864) (reply)

On the 1871 census for Herefordshire Ross - District One - where the PEMBER's are living (this includes both sides of Dean Hill)

District 3 - part of the Enumerator's notes say...... that part of the Town of Ross comprising the Dock, the North East side of Dock Street, the North side of Trenchard Street.

On the 1881 census District 3: The Enumerator states that Trenchard Street is also called EDDE CROSS (is this possibly EARL GREY entry ?) and on this census would be named as such. i.e. Edde Cross Street, which comes after Dock Street.

PEMBER children - Mary Sophia (b1862), James John (b1864)

Hi
Whilst researching three of the children of William PEMBER (b1829)and his wife Ann (nee MEREDITH, nee HOLFORD)(b1829), living in Ross, I've found that the baptism transcripts state places of residence as "Dock", "Earl Grey Entry" and "Dean Hill".
Can anyone tel me what these names relate to.
Many thanks
