John York JARRETT and Martha KING Cinderford (reply)

My interest is with the Jarrett family. John Y. Jarrett was a son of my person of interest - Thomas Jarrett, born about 1803, Kidwelly, Wales, wife Mary York. My brick wall is finding parents of Thomas ... Tom's 1851 census record,Gloucester, shows wrong shire for Kidwelly, this being the only clue to Thomas's birthplace.

I am interested in Martha King Jarrett's children as they are descendants of my person of interest. Meg, thank you for your reply.

Thomas KING born about 1829 in Cinderford (reply)

Thank you for the clarification. Bailey Kings Row looks most likely to me, since there are addresses for the family in Bilson and in Flaxley.

Thomas KING born about 1829 in Cinderford (reply)

I suspect your challenge lies in the "non conformist" roots, most of the records here / available come form the traditional Parish churches.

Burley Kings Row - I have looked at this address/entry before, and not reached a conclusion; my feeling is that this is Bailey Kings Row in the Bilson Green part of Cinderford ( later recorded as part of Flaxley). However Barley Corn Row does have some merit given Barley Corn Square has survived today in modern Cinerford.

Thomas KING born about 1829 in Cinderford

I am looking for baptism records for Thomas KING,son of James and Hannah KING, who was born about 1829 in Cinderford and died there in 1895.

He married Martha JONES, daughter of William and Mary JONES in 1851. The JONES were Wesleyan Methodists from Coleford. William JONES was a stone mason.

The Forest of Dean paish records have helped me a lot - I have found many parish records for family members, including burial records for Thomas and Martha KING at Cinderford St John's.

But I have not found baptisms for Thomas KING and any of Thomas and Martha's children. Probably they were baptized as Methodists. The children were:
Mary Martha KING- born abt 1851 (buried at Cinderford St John 1873)
Asenath KING - born abt 1873 - married Josiah PICKTHORNE, buried at Parkend 1923
Emma KING - born abt 1855 - married John SMITH
George Howard KING - born abt 1858
Flora KING - born abt 1860 - married Samuel V BARNARD
Mathilda Jones KING - born abt 1864, married John RANDELL, died 1944

In 1861, the family's address is given as East Dean - "Burley Kings Row". In 1871 as Flaxley.

Any information or suggestions would be most welcome. I realize I can send for birth registrations, but I am hoping to avoid the expense.

I would also be interested in any details from gravestones at Cinderford St. John's, for any KINGS, JONES, and JARRETTS.
