I've contacted Roger off list, as this is a x Cousin of my family, both decended from the children of William (occ. Carpenter) BOWN from Down Ampney and Elizabeth BOWN who settled in Swindon pre 1851 onwards.

James KIBBLEWHITE BOWN born
26 June 1836 Down Ampney (a brother of Edwin and George)

and just to confuse,

James married Ann RUSSELL 10 November 1856 (witnesses Charles BOWN and Sarah RUSSELL) - Charles being another brother, who later married Sarah, Anne's sister....

James K BOWN - 54
Ann - 52 (nee RUSSELL)
Stephen - 20
Edward - 15

and for those interested in Bottle collecting, James & Ann's - Son, Joseph RUSSELL BOWN, started the J R BOWN Mineral Mfg. Co. in Swindon

Very interesting. Is Edward Bown married Ellen Rebecca White part of your family tree. Children Olive born 10Feb1905 and Ewart. Swindon and GWR connections. Olive's sons are alive and well in Swindon now.

Thanks for the information, will await the death certs to see why they both died in the same quarter year, ( my original question ) but have discovered another branch of family thanks to you all. Can anyone find any newspaper articals on this original question.

Not an area covered by this Forum. but probably knew my Dad's family from Ampney Crucis/Down Ampney

On the 1871 census, Robert SAUNDERS is the Gardener in Dollar Ward, (Abbey Gardens) and Mary Ann SAUNDERS their daughter is aged 28 single, born Cirencester.

1891 Poulton

Thomas ADAMS - 56, Hurdle Maker, born Poulton - born 20 Jan 1834, christened 16 March 1834, parents William (Blacksmith) & Ann ***
Mary A - 46 - born Cirencester
John H - 13, General Labourer, born Ampney Crucis
Charles E - 11 born AC
Martha A - 8 -born AC

other siblings of Thomas: at Poulton St Michael ... Richard - 11 Jan 1832, christened 4 March 1832 (Thomas was a Whitesmith)..... Sabina - 2 August 1835, and William 21 May 1837

Edward ADAMS - 28, Commercial Traveller, born Poulton (March Qtr 1843 Cirencester District - which covers Poulton)
Martha ADAMS (Mary Anne's sister) age 26 - born Cirencester
Frederick Arthur ADAMS - age 10 months, born Painswick
Ann ADAMS (Mother) (W) - age 63 - born Cirencester ***
Mary Jane HADWICK? age 26, visitor - born Cirencester.

Thomas and Edward appear to be brothers.

Chris W : I have two brothers marrying two sisters in my tree as well - too dark at night to walk the girl home too far!!! Edwin BOWN my x Grandfather married Rhoda BAILEY in 1853, his brother George BOWN married Kezia BAILEY - 1849 (both Edwin & George, originally from Down Ampney - (2.5 miles from Poulton) - but the Great Western Railways took them from their place of birth (as it did many families)

My Grandad William WICKENDEN left Blakeney (FOD) and moved to Swindon, Wiltshire to work on the Railways as an Upholsterer - can remember his bent little finger, which he told me was caused by pulling the thread through the thick cloth used to cover the seats in the carriages.

It seems atrange that both Mary Ann and Martha were ( Adams ) and have all those children, who is who??
Surely both sisters did not marry an Adams

Looking at the 1881 census for Robert and Sarah, it states she was (Paralysed)

I see that the register entries (in slowhands reply)were on consecutive pages. The death registers at that time had four entries to a page.

Several reasons why deaths may have occurred/been registered on the same day; accident of some sort involving both parties, not necessarily dying on same day, but a short time apart, and coroner holding inquest for both on same day; or, a frail elderly couple devoted to each other, and one dies immediately after the other from heart attack etc as a result of shock - this happens far more often than is realised.

Why not send off to the Register Office responsible for Cirencester for a death certificate for one party, and then decide whether its worth buying the second. (suggest getting the later entry first)

I can see that they are in the same Quarter, what do you have that leads you to conclude the "same day" ?

What happened to them, why the same day?
