William Wood b 1746 d 1831 Nailer Clearwell (reply)

In the will of William Wood (Posted in our documents file) William leaves a sum of money to his grandsons William James and John Jones.

On the 27 Oct 1803 a Amy Wood marries a John Jones at Newland.

The above Amy could be the sister of my Hester Jenkins Amy appears to be a a family name passed down from Amy Meek.

I can find no baptism records for either Amy or Esther Wood probably between 1775 and 1785. Is this the period that rats destroyed some of the Newland parish records?

Kind Regards

Tony Jenkins

Apple Mac keyboard (reply)

One final word on this subject then we will get back to family history.

Just done a little testing.

Ignore the fact that it is a UK or US keyboard and also what is shown above the 3 symbol on the keybord. The key combinations depend upon what keyboard language you have set in your system preferences.

Set to British keyboard language, this is what you get.
alt and 3 returned #
shift and 3 retuned £

Set to US keyboard language, this is what you get.
alt and 3 returned £
shift and 3 retuned #

If your main object of using # character is to type it into a forum link, then it is far easier to copy and paste the complete link than typing it. Maybe you have tried that and not been successful when using your Mac. To confuse things a little more, if you are using the Windows key combinations to do the task they will not work on a Mac. On a Mac they are slightly different than Windows.

Copy is: command and C
Paste is: command and V

The command key is shown as the apple key on some keyboards.

Forum links (reply)

Thanks for that Bertha, I see you need the 'hash' sign only when you want to bring up the whole 'thread', It does help (and save time) to have all the past input from forum members when you receive an additional related request

Apple Mac keyboard (reply)

Admin

I use Apple Mac, and have a wireless keyboard purchased from the States. The Hash symbol is above the 3, but if I use Shift and 3 (this has been a problem for a while) - I get the English pound sign (£) = I've hit every combination to try and find the 'hash'

If I use, Edit, Punctuation, special characters, and get the Hash sign (which I insert) # , but didn't seem to produce the correct link - I'll ask my Son when he's here on Sunday for guidance if case I am doing something incorrectly.

Many thanks.

A couple of answers (reply)

I will be happy to post the transcript of the will of William Wood for the interest of other members. Could some please advise on the process.

Details of where to send the Will are on our downloads page.

My keyboard doesn't have a 'hash' symbol, so try as I might, can't type out the Forum link.

On most keyboards the hash key '#' is the same key as the number '3'. Hold down the shift key and at the same time press the '3' key.

An easier way to include a hyperlink on your posting is to copy and paste the link.

William Wood b 1746 d 1831 Nailer Clearwell

William Wood, Nailer, Clearwell, is the father of my 4 x GGrandmother Hester Jenkins.

I have recently obtained a copy of the will of William proved 15th June 1832.

The will indicates a link to the George Inn Little Dean.

Extract from will

I give unto my daughter Hester Jenkins All Club Monies and benefits arising from the club or benefits society of which I am a member held at the George Inn in Little Dean in the said county and kept by William Wood and kept in trust for my grandson William Jenkins to be paid to him at her discreasion and also I give unto the said William Jenkins all my tools belonging to the nail trade now in my possession.

I have not been able to pin down the parents of William.

Could William be connected to the George Inn Little Dean and could his father be William Wood proprieter of the George Inn?

William Wood married Amy Meek in 1772 at Little Dean, Amy is buried at Newland 1831 (aged 85). I believe Amy is the daughter of Basil (Bazil) Meek and Susanna Watkins if so the records indicate she was born before 1734 (baptised) Ruardean March 17 1734, making her 97.

Is my assumption reguarding Amy Meek correct?

I will be happy to post the transcript of the will of William Wood for the interest of other members. Could some please advise on the process.

Kind Regards

Tony Jenkins
