18 Anchorberry and Dole Cottage (reply)

Hi Linda

I think you'll find that Anchorberry is actually Hangerberry. If you look for this on Google maps it will show you exactly where it is. This is a road that leaves Lydbrook and joins up with the A4136 at the top of the Long Hill.

18 Anchorberry

is probably the 18th dwelling enumerated in Anchorberry - I suspect cottages well apart rather than a tight hamlet.

Anchorberry / Hangerberry etc is in "Upper" Lydbrook to the West and up above Holy Jesus Church

Well Tump is in this area of Lower Lydbrook :-

18 Anchorberry and Dole Cottage (reply)

Many thanks for making contact. Would love to hear more about your side of the family.

Have purchased the owners of land map, which is absolutely brilliant, for the area but still am not sure if I have the correct family.

Can anyone help me pin-point 18 Anchorberry Lydbrook in 1861 or Dole Cottage/Well Tump/Incline Cottage in 1851 – these cottages precede the properties my Bevans were living in.

Linda

Landowners Names and Maps (reply)

The names of people listed on the pages are only examples (Walford & Ruardean) of what are included on a map. To obtain the landowners manes of Lydbrook, you will need to purchase the Lydbrook parish map of landowners.

The will of Benjamin BEVAN

I have purchased a copy of a will for Benjamin Bevan Millwright and Carpenter of Lydbrook dated 1828 in which he leaves several parcels of land to various children along with two properties. The Will does not state where these properties were but I have located 3 of the beneficiaries (son Benjamin Bevan and probably a grandchild, surname Evans + another Bevan) living next door to each other in 1841. The address on the census is Lydbrook. Is there any way I can find out where these cottages were?
