William John Hill brn 1881, Shirenewton (reply)

Alice Ada Watkins (Hill) was my grandmother. She died in Cardiff in 1965, aged 85.Her husband William died soon after World War II in Cardiff, where two of her children had settled. My other was Winifred (Powell - 1914-80). She married Alan Powell from Roggiett at Tidenham church in 1937. Her sisters were Cisely, who emigrated in old age to Australia, where her daughter still lives, and Olive, who moved in retirement from Manchester to Plymouth and died in the 1970s. A brother, Jack, lived in Porthcawl. I have lost touch with his family.
Alice Ada married William Hill at St Luke's church, Weaste, Salford, in 1908. William served in WW1 and survived, but sometime in the 1920s suffered serious injuries in a road accident which left him unable to work.
I obviously have photographs of all these family members and of my great grandfather, who was a blacksmith, moving from Sussex to Manchester.
I recall all my great aunts, Olive (lived in Altrincham), Cisely (Thurman - lived in Bristol) and Winifred (married an Australian who died in WW1).
My grandather allegedly frequented the "Live and Let Live" pub in Tutshill - I have visited it and found it a rather unsalubrious establishment these days!
