Marriage certificate and subsequent census research confirms that Albert was of the Norfolk branch via London - bakers and funiture dealers. So not part of my Shropshire roots.

Have sent for marriage cert (before the prices rise!) First indications are not hopeful - I'll just wait and see.

I'm keeping a seperate list of orphan entries covering London. Recently helped a Merrington in South Africa who has researched the entire Merrington Tree resulting from John Samuel Merrington going to the Cape to set up an English school.

With a nickname such as yours are you a fan of Eric?

First instinct is the Symonds Yat ferry, second is the Stowfield / Lydbrook crossing

newcomer to site - very impressed.

My Merrington roots are in Shropshire but I believe that Albert Edward Merrington and his wife Mary may have moved to Coleford where their son Albert Charles Lewis was baptised on 20 May 1919.

I moved to Newport Mon in the early 50's. My sister recalls visiting relatives on the River Wye and travelling on a small rope or chain ferry boat to cross the river. Ring any bells?

Would be grateful of any information.
