John Dobbs = more than one ? (reply)

Hi again Hawdon,

Sorry I think this burial is not right as John Dobbs was living at Lane End in 1871, but his wife Amelia is shown as a widow on the 1881 census. This would make 1890 too late.
Thanks for your help.
Clive

John DOBBS 1813 - 1874 Crossways, Coleford - Lane End (reply)

Hello Slowhands,
Thank you for the death/burial record. It all ties in as he was resident at Lane End in 1871, but his wife is a widow on the 1881 census.

Not sure if it is the correct John Dobbs on the baptism record ?
My John Dobbs states born abt.1810 or 1811 in West Dean on at least three census.
There is another John Dobbs born abt.1813 in Newland.
Does the baptism record cover West Dean or Newland ?

I think the death record for Amelia is right

Thank you again for your help.
Clive

John Dobbs = more than one ? (reply)

Hello Hawdon,

Thank you for the details. It looks the correct marriage !
Problem arose when I checked for others researching John Dobbs and found a couple of people with the same names in the family children but linked to John Dobbs born abt.1813 in Newland.
Think some-one has spotted my family history on Ancestry.com and lifted the information without checking ? John Dobbs, I think there are possibly THREE in Gloucestershire about the same dates.
Thanks Clive

John Dobbs = more than one ?

I have a John Dobbs b.abt 1810 in West Dean, shown living with wife Amelia and children in various census returns for West Dean.
He is not on the 1881 census but I found an Amilia Dobbs, widow, living next door to son William & family.
Unable to locate death of John or his wife Amilia ? Marriage ?
Checking on simular names on Ancestry.com another John Dobbs b.1813 in Westbury, comes up with wife Amelia, same names in families children. Somebody is off down the wrong branch ? But Who ?

Confused in Scotland !
