I have the census recs for 1851 and 61 which show Lydney as birth although knowing what I know, that isn't always certain.

Interesting thought about the river. There's never been any nautical references within the family that I've seen, Nathaniel was a stone shipper \ labourer, as were most of the family (tin, agricultural). I did get Anne's death cert from 1888 as I hoped this may show maiden name as the more recent ones do but not so I'm afraid.

At least it doesn't look like I was missing something obvious this time!

On the various census records, Anne's birthplace is consistently given as Lydney. I've searched through the parish records and IGI on the basis that it's pre-1837 but can find no record of a marriage. The family births and deaths are all in the FOD transcriptions at Lydney church and I'd have expected to find the record there.
