Westbury Workhouse was often recorded on death certificates as No1 High St. A48 as it now is being the main road through the village.The workhouse was phased out later and became an old peoples home and has now been superceded by a

modern home at the other end of the village.

The workhouse, which stands west of Westbury village street, comprises a long three-story brick range, apparently incorporating the original parish workhouse, and a larger brick range behind, evidently built in 1874, (fn. 58) in which a chapel is included. The buildings later housed a county council welfare home, called Westbury Hall, which was closed in 1969. (fn. 59)

A relative was buried in Dymock in 1956 and the parish record notes that he died in Westbury Hall, Westbury on Severn.

I imagine that it was a hospice/workhouse but wonder if anyone has anymore information?
