I'd keep an open mind to them not being Prisoners, perhaps being Railworkers ( Wormwood Scrubs is close to the (GWR) rail line into London Paddington )

Some "Conscientious Objectors" were sent to the Wormwood Scrubs Prison during WW1.

Thanks for replying so quickly. The inquest does not mention prisoners, just that the 3 witnesses were "of Wormwood Scrubbs". Thomas died on 15 April and the inquest was on 25 April, so not very long after.

.... or after the accident the 3 were involved in a "crime" and ended up in Wormwood Scrubs Prison.

Does the Inquest transcript refer to them as Prisoners ?
How long after the Accident was the Inquest ?

Thanks to all involved with transcribing the inquests added to this site - your hard work is much appreciated.

Thomas Freeth was an ag. lab. who died in Alvington in 1917 as a result of a farming accident (I have the death certificate). The inquest details 3 witnesses from Wormwood Scrubbs and train fares amounting to 3s 7d (I imagine the cost of tickets from London).

Does anyone know if prisoners from London were used in farming in Alvington during WW1 - if this is not the case, why would there by witnesses from Wormwood Scrubbs?
