Yes ,it could be the fathers name but I would love to know which Merrick. Margaret Baugh 1769-1816 was married to Arnold Merrick 1789-1810. So there could be a connection thru' the Baugh line. Peter.

I see that Maria was illegitimate, and notice that there were a number of Merrick's in Ross. Could Merrick be the father's name?
