Posted by Helen Singleton, daughter of Emmeline Pollard, Frederick Pollards great grand daughter. We have been researching Frederick Pollard and we are finding him impossible to trace back to his birth and who his parents are. Frederick doesn't help matters, did you know that the 1911 census is filled in by Fredericks own hand writing, it has his signature and he clearly struggles at spelling. He has one son down as Georgie, when it should be George E, for Edward, my mums dad. He then spells Leonard, Lenaord. There's more, his age is all of a sudden 45, when in the 1901 census he is only 30, his wife Emily is only 34 in 1911, when she should be at least 36, maybe 37, in 1901 she is 26, which both her and Fredericks ages in the 1901 census tie in with their marriage certificate, which we ordered, so ........ Just how old are they? All other family trees in Ancestry.com have Frederick being born in Liskeard, in 1867, because he was 45 in 1911, but this puts his birth at 1866, possibly 1865, they are all wrong, it's a basic mistake, a little lazy in their detective work. We also found Frederick living with the Snell family in Liskeard on a farm aged 11 in 1881 and also again aged 22 in 1891 living with the Snells in Alvington over 200 miles away, where he obviously met and married Emily Green. We are pleased to see you have this connection as well, we were really excited when we discovered it. But .... Who are Fredericks parents? We have looked and looked, but can find no evidence of any parents for Frederick, born either in 1870ish, or 1865/66 the 1867 one has a Frederick Pollard in what looks like a poor house, with his mother Elizabeth and siblings, but I can't find any link to say it is him and his mother, but even if it is, her blood line ends there, we can find no husband, or father for Frederick, it might be his mother, Frederick clearly keeps telling his age incorrectly, he wrote he was 45 himself in 1911, but will we ever know his true age? I doubt it and it remains a mystery, we have spent so much time researching him, I think it's time to move on. Regards Helen.
