For anyone who has been following this thread, I have today received the marriage certificate of Moses Brain and Esther Wheatstone and her father is stated as Stephen Wheatstone.
Thanks to everyone for their guidance and information on this topic. I now have a new lead to follow!!

From this interesting thread, I discovered that two people shown separately in my Family Tree are siblings. I already had Esther Whetstone and her marriage to Moses Brain, but I also have John Stephen Whetstone who married Mirrium ? and their daughter Anna Whetstone 1868 married Allan Martin Treherne 1871.

To add to the debate we might need Bertha to assist with the following :

No sign of any marriage (as yet!)

It is worth using the Advanced Search on FOD marriage records - just put in the witness box(s) COWMEADOW/WHEATSTONE - one at a time and see what marriages COWMEADOW's attended (sometimes very useful) for family groups.

Thanks for the information so far, certainly a lot to digest! Any ideas why Esther would be a Cowmeadow and not a Whetstone as she was the 6th child and all other children were Whetstone. I can understand why the 1st child, James was Cowmeadow Whetstone, not having any marriage dates for Stephen and Hannah can only assume he was born before marriage.

If you use the Advanced Search on FOD records

and just put in parents christian names : Stephen & Hannah

the various children's baptisms appear (including Esther) - the address (Vention) is where this family were living on the 1851 census.

Stephen WHETSTONE is with Hannah (COWMEADOW) - but can't find marriage - 1841 census -

Are these children named Cowmeadow from their mother Hannah? If that is the case who were Hannah's parents, James and Mary or William and Mary who all lived in Ruardean at the begiining of the 19th century? I thought that the Hannah Cowmeadow who was the daughter of James and Mary married Barzillai Meek.

I am looking for help on Esther Wheatstone/Whetstone who married Moses Brain 1868. There are two Esthers on the 1871 census who were born in the Forest of Dean, one as wife of Moses and another as a lodger with Harriet Evans in Hereford. I currently have Esther (lodger), daughter of William and Elizabeth, siblings Ann Selina, Elizabeth, Sarah Hannah and Mary Jane as my ancestor. However this is now in doubt as Sarah Hannah also listed as a lodger with Harriet Evans.

Would appreciate any help in locating / confirming the correct Esther and parents siblings etc.
