I agree this must be the Annie Delores Brain that was born 1908 with possibly a slip up by the enumerator. Sometimes a person is shown on the census with a different name, it usually being a "chosen" preferred name, but not for a second name.
I think the birth reg. as per Slowhands details is probably her:

The only inconsistency I see with Annie Delores being the daughter of Amos Brain 1867 is her middle name. The older Amos did not marry until 1911, and Annie Delores was born 1808. Can only fin 2 Annie Brains in 1911 of age 3-ish, one being Annie Mary (dau of Amos) and the other has a father Albert. Nor does a search for Amos Brain throw up anything that contradicts - so I'm going to assume Annie Mary is one and same as Annie Delores......

KNEW I'd be related somehow to Hartley, but researching him only came up with very distaant connections until now.

I have Flower Fisher & his wife Maria Jordon 1832 in my Family Tree as their daughter Harriett Fisher 1852 married Joseph Mountjoy Cinderey 1850. Joseph's parents were Henry Cinderey 1812 and Mary Ann Mountjoy 1820. Henry Cinderey had 2 siblings that are related to me; Samuel Cinderey 1816 who married Mary Ann Brain 1821 & William 1825 who married Esther Meek 1826.

Joseph Mountjoy Cindery and Harriett Fisher had 6 children including Henry Flower Cinderey 1888.

Thanks for that. I reckon she is the daughter of Amos Brain 1867 & Ellen Mary Hulbert 1874.

As an interesting aside; Amos Brain 1867 had a brother Flower, who is shown as a daughter on the Census of 1881 & 1891 - 1881 shown below. However I don't believe they were into sex changes in those days He married Julia Elizabeth Barnard 1875 and they had a son Maurice Thomas Brain 22 Mar 1898 !!

I have Miles Meek 1856 who married Mary Jane Philips in my Family Tree, he would be my 7th cousin twice removed. I have 11 children listed for this family, but no Rose. You will note from the census data provided by Slowhands that no Rose appears on the census, is it perhaps a "chosen" name for another of Miles & Mary's daughters, Ellen 1889, Beatrice 1890 or Mary 1891 ?

You will also notice from the marriage detail provided by Slowhands that John Meek 1859 (my 4th cousin 4 times removed) who married Annie Baker was in fact the son of Solomon Meek 1829 and Frances Martin 1830. Solomon Meek 1829 was in turn the son of Joseph Meek 1782 & Hannah Cooke 1792. Joseph Meek 1782 in turn son of Joseph Meek 1749 & Ann Harris.

When researching Joseph Meek around this time, note that apart from Joseph Meek 1782 who married Hannah Cooke, there is also a Joseph Meek 1771 who married Hannah Baldwin 1779. Getting the families right is subjective, so this is "My" interpretation of events.

Researching back from Miles Meek 1856, his parents Elijah Meek 1824 & Ann Roberts, Elijah Meek's parents Moses Meek 1800 & Sarah Tippins 1803, Moses Meek's parents James Meek 1774 & Mary Gagg, it is possible of course that James Meek 1774 may be a sibling of one of the Joseph's shown above - 1771 or 1782.

My relationship in this line stems from Sarah Tippins 1803 whose parents were William Tippins 1773 & Sarah Read 1778. Going back two more generations gets you to Thomas Wilce 1707 & Susannah Marfell 1706, the latter being my second cousin 7 times removed.

Now seeking help from Slowhands. I note from Slowhands excellent contribution that Hartley Meek married Annie Delores Brain in 1928 (Parish Record shown below). Annie is shown as daughter of Amos Brain. I have an Amos Brain 1886 married to Alice Mary, also an Amos Brain 1867 married to Ellen Mary Hulbert in 1893 and am wondering if there is a connection.

As an aside the grandmother of Amos Meek 1886 is the daughter of Joseph Meek 1782 & Hannah Cooke 1792, sister of Solomon......................

Meek - Miles, Married Mary Jane Phillips

I am trying to trace the Meek relatives on my wife's side of the family. Miles Meek married Mary Jane Phillips and had a number of children including sons Miles, Enoch, William Henry, Israel, Rose and John Jack Meek who married Rhoda Ward in Yorkshiure who was my wife's grandfather. All of the above children were born between 1870 and 1890. Miles Meek senior had a brother called John Jack Meek who married Anne Baker. They had 13 children including Hartley Meek who himself had 8 children incxluding a Thomas John Meek who married Kathleen and who lived at Colchester Close, Mitcheldean in the 1990's.
