Arthur Albert Meek who was born Meopham, Kent Jul 1886 is descended from Joseph Meek 1782 & Hannah Cooke 1792, they were his great grandparents.

A Canadian researcher who is Arthur Albert Meek's Granddaughter, supplied me with details including his other two wives - both in Canada. The understanding of this researcher is that Arthur Albert Meek had Evelyn Frances Terry declared legally dead.

I do not think it appropriate to broadcast the details she divulged to me over this web site, but if you email me (using the letter icon)I am prepared to send an email to the last known address I have for her to see if she wishes to communicate with you.

No death certificate (reply)

My grandmother Evelyn Francis Terry born in 1890, married Arthur Albert Meek in London on June 25, 1935. Her father's name was Frederick Terry from Camberwell, Surrey. She disappeared and there is no death certificate that I have been able to find. She did have a brother that lived in Australia by the name of Henry f Terry. She may have gone by the surname of Brown. Is anyone else looking for this?

William [MEEK] WELSH 1842 m Mary HADDOCK 1843 Lydbrook (reply)

Slowhands

Going back to your previous posting Joseph Meek father of Ann Meek who married James Welsh, was in fact married to Hannah Baldwin 1779, they married Newland 8 June 1801. The fact of two Joseph Meek's marrying Hannah fairly close together causes a lot of confusion.

Moving on; Joseph Meek & Hannah Baldwin had 10 children, including Anne who married James Welsh (which I have only picked up thanks to your posting) - Lydia 1816 who married Thomas Yemm 1811 at Flaxley 12 Nov 1845 - it is she who is looking after her Welsh family nephew & niece on the census, also Richard Meek 1807 who married Jane Simmonds 1812 at Abenhall 24 Dec 1838. They had a daughter Emma Meek 1846 who married Thomas Haddock 1845 - son of Rawlings Haddock. Thomas Haddock & Emma Meek had a daughter Emma Elizabeth Haddock which leads me to my connection here as she married a relative of mine Allen Trigg 1874 at Drybrook 21 Jul 1897. Bearing in mind I am not related to Thomas Haddock, I usually paste interesting information picked up relating to "connected" people in case it later proves useful, in this instance a question I would guess was posted on this web site - in italics :

I am researching my husband's HADDOCK family history. He is a ggggrandson of Rawlings HADDOCK 1801-1871, Forest of Dean. Rawlings' son George married Elizabeth HADDOCK in 1869 at Wolverhampton. Elizabeth was the daughter of Joseph and Harriet HADDOCK of Kidderminster and the sister of Thomas HADDOCK b1845 mentioned here recently. Elizabeth was widowed and I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to her. On the 1881 England Census she appears to be a nurse at Hampton Court Palace.

The census data you have posted for William Haddock, father of Mary Haddock who married William Welsh was born about 1803. See baptism below back to Rawlings again, so below that marriage for Rawlings/Rollings Haddock :

meek-welsh family (reply)

Hi malvickery

I note that Slowhands has established the Meek - Welsh connection. However, in your posting you mentioned that you thought your descendants went back to William Meek 1811 whose father was Joseph Meeek 1782:

Joseph Meek 1782 & Hannah Cooke 1792 did indeed have a son William born 1811, baptised 12 May 1811, but I believe he married Jane Knight born 1815 at Newland 14 Sep 1841. From Census records you will see that they did not have children :

1851 Census Ruardean
William Meek 39 Collier Ruardean
Jane 34 Walford
William 8 Ruardean shown as son, but probably nephew as in 1861

1861 Census Ruardean
William Meek 50Coal Haulier Ruardean
Jane 46 Walford
William Meek nephew 18 Carter Ruardean

1871 Census Ruardean
William Meek 59 Coal Haulier Ruardean
Jane 57 Walford
Tom Meek nephew 7 East Dean

1881 Census Ruardean
William Meek 73 Coal Haulier Ruardean
Jane 73 Walford

The William Meek nephew aged 8 in 1851 is in fact William Meek 1842 son of Richard Meek 1819 (brother of William Meek 1811) & Ann Cloudley 1820. William 1842 married Jane Davis born 1847 Ireland. William Meek 1842 & Jane nee Davis emigrated to USA 1882 :

1871 Census East Dean
William Meek 28 Collier East Dean
Jane 26 Ireland
Mary Ann 3 East Dean
Jane 1 East Dean
Richard Meek 12 Brother Collier East Dean
Eliza 10 Sister East Dean

Meek-welsh family

my late wife was born a meek-welsh in caldicot in 1960,and i have been trying to trace her ancestory i believe that before the name was created by the adding of the welsh part that they were Meeks from the forest of dean, through marriage records her grandmother Elsie May Rawlings married a William James Meek in 1920, this William Meek we believe was born in july 1900 the son of Frederick Meek Lydbrook 1870 and Alberta Barnes Hartbury 1868 and if we are correct Fredericks father was William Meek 1842 Ruardean his father was William Meek born lydbrook 1811 his father was Joseph Meek 1782 Ruardean his father we believe was also called Joseph but that is all we know about him.i would be greatful to anybody who is also researching the Meeks to help me by confirming if these links are correct and look forward to hearing from any of my daughters long lost family
