Phoebe Ann Vowles nee Reed, my great grandmother.
when she died in Cardiff 1913, Francis Vowles moved the family back to Backwell in somerset. He died 4 yrs later in France 1917. Their son George (another Francis in fact, Francis George) was raised by his aunts with his brothers and sisters. George had an aunt Clara who worked as a nurse in Birmingham...it maybe due to this connection that he moved to Birmingham in his 20s and met my grandmother Phyllis HAYNES. She was the daughter of a wealthy businessman, Frederick or "Teddy" Haynes. He owned a chain of grocers shops.
They married and moved to Bournemouth, Dorset, in 1949, 5 yrs after the birth of their son, Michael. They also had a daughter, Margaret.
They bought a hotel, the Bourne Dean which they ran for a few yrs then George ran various other businesses and bought a large amount of Forestry land in and around Bournemouth and Poole, the businesses included a Bentley Dealership and a building firm.
(He eventually moved his business to the Ilse of Wight where he went into partnership with Mr Binns and became Vowles and Binns builders).Phyllis remained in Bournemouth.
Their son Mike married Carol-Anne Hughes in 1966 (day we won world cup!)they had three children, Katherine (me), Jonathan and Elizabeth.
Carol died in 2004 and Mike followed in 2007.

Hi,

I was hoping you could clear something up, if Hubert William SPARKES mother is Edith Annie Smith then it means that Kate & her Husband are related. (1st cousins once removed)

Edith Annie Smith is the daughter of Mary Ann Reed & John Smith, which makes Kate a first cousin of Edith Annie Smith.

Kates father George Reed is the brother of Mary Ann Reed/Smith(parents are Jasper Reed and Ann Harper)

So my question is, has there been a mix up or are the two indeed related?
