Henry HOCHLEITNER 1885 (reply)

I was thinking on the same lines, whether they had a bad time with such a name during the First and or Second World Wars. However the fact the brother's wife seems to have kept the German sounding surname makes it hopeful...I have found where others in my family history have suddenly disappeared it has been that they have either re-married; or gone abroad. I've presumed many a person had died only to find them popping up in some country far away and marrying someone there! Judging by him working in the hotel and catering industry there was scope for them to move anywhere. I will keep looking too and if I find an answer will post it here.
(One young woman in my family history I had presumed to die in childhood but after three or four years I found records, in the last two weeks (!), of her marrying someone in Bombay and living there at the same time as her sister who was married to a vicar working there! Though sadly I found she did die young, but in Madras three or four years after she married!
You solved the mystery also of Sympherosa Rook whom I thought had died but who instead was married three times, lived to a good age, and, understandably, appears to have shortened her name to Rosa! So the picture might unfold at some stage in the future. I have found though that with rare names it can sometimes make it very easy to track people down but in other cases harder. (My great grandmother on another side of the family had a rare surname which meant that people e.g. priests and census gatherers changed it to what they thought it was rather than keeping to it which made tracing her brother who emigrated to the USA very difficult and finding the exact place where they were born to be a nightmare!)
Thanks again Slowhands, you ought really to be called Swifthands though because of the speed of your responses!

I can find no trace of Henry and Elizabeth later on, they might have emigrated?

I'm struggling too - however the search has not been abandoned !

Given the period of history its possible they changed the Austrian surname and stayed in the UK - in which case an added degree of difficulty has been added to the quest :-)

I cannot see the names, or similar in the online emigration databases.

I think you are right about the Elizabeth who died in Hampstead, she is likely to be Elizabeth (nee Tyler)'s sister-in-law. I can find no trace of Henry and Elizabeth later on, they might have emigrated? I am still looking into it and it is still a mystery as to whether Henry's family is of Swiss, Austrian or German origin or where Henry and his brother were born.

Elizabeth TYLER 1881 ish and Henry Hochleitner (reply)

I think that this might be the Elizabeth Tyler I am looking for. She is recorded on your parish records as having married Henry Hochleitner on 17th August 1908 at Coleford. Her father's name is correct and his occupation tallies with other records the two witnesses match with her siblings:John H and Laura Tyler.
I wonder if anyone knows anything of Henry Hochleitner. I am wondering whether he might be German or Swiss? If the latter there was another relative who married a Swiss man. Mr. Hochleitner is described as being in the hotel and catering trade and his father is listed as an hotelier too. I am wondering whether they had a hotel somewhere in the FOD? If anyone knows anything about the Hochleitner's I would be interested to learn about them.
An Elizabeth Hochleitner died in the 1960s in London and a trip to my local library to use its subscription to Ancestry.com may well clarify whether this is the same person.

Because it's such a rare name here I'd be interested to know if anyone knows anything about it.

Tyler/Tylor

Does anyone know what became of all the children of John and Maria Tyler/Tylor (born May 31,1852 (nee Rook(e))? They were married in Parkend on Jan 24th 1870 and lived in Coalway, Lane End,Coleford. They were both buried in Coleford, John in 1910 and Maria in 1923. I have their dates of birth etc. However they had the following children and I can find no record of marriages and wonder if any might have emigrated? Most of the children appear to have been born in Monmouth or at least registered there:
Libby 1871 or Elizabeth 1881 (or both?)(not sure if there was a mathematical error in my calculations or transcription errors),
John (1876),
Teresa (1880),
William (1885),
Lorry or Laura (1888),
Alice (1891),
Charles and Thomas (1878) (Twins?),
Rosa (1873).
Any news on these would be most welcome. I've tried Familysearch, Ancestry and your database.
