James family Gravestone in Lydbrook Church (reply)

Oh thanks, Graham. It seems odd that it was scratched on so roughly though, I would have thought he would, as a professional, have made a proper job of inscribing his own name.

My condolences on your loss.

After the funeral today of Gladys Emily James nee Hale 1912, from The Borts.I visited the headstone of William James and the inscription on the base relates to the monumental mason. Who is R Matthews from I think Newnham .

James family Gravestone in Lydbrook Church (reply)

William James 1803 is my 2x Great grandfather . Have taken a photo of the tombstone in the past , but have not noticed the inscription as mentioned . Will visit tomorrow and take a look. His ( William ) Great grandfather was in fact Warren 1751 who was the Father of the more famous Warren.
William James 1841 my great grandfather and Henry George James 1876 my grandfather are also to be found in the same churchyard.
Regards Graham James

William James was born in 1803 so your ancestor was of a different generation. My tree goes back to Richard James born 17-03-1727.

James family Gravestone in Lydbrook Church (reply)

My James family are also buried in Lydbrook churchyard. I do not know whether Temperance and William were relatives of James James perhaps a brother. James came from Bream and started my branch of the family. James and Harriet had Oliver born 1881, Maud, Lily, Howard who are buried there and my grandfather John Henry who is buried with his wife and son in Otahuhu, Auckland. I do not know if any other family related to James is bured in Lydbrook and would be very interested if there were. Sorry that does not answer your question but Warren James came from Bream and the rest of the family stayed there as far as I know.

James family Gravestone in Lydbrook Church

The gravestone of my ancestors William and Temperance James is in Lydbrook Churchyard which I visited yesterday. I managed to read the inscription but noticed on the very bottom of the stone where it enters the ground someone has scratched two words. The first word I think says Warrhon, the second I could not make out. This may be something to do with the Warren James, although at 1876 this is some years after the event. Has anyone from the James family been able to discipher this?
