I don't have any information on Thomas I'm afraid, but I believe his daughter Miriam (Mary?) Rowsell/Rowswell married my 3xgreat grandfather, Edward Burley c.1865 in the Baptist Chapel, Chepstow. Don't know if this helps at all?

She is down as a Labourers wife, so he could have "wandered" anywhere - tunnelling, canal building etc or simply mining

Instinct says a "hot spot" for ROWSWELL would take you to the Somerset coal fields around Midsommer Norton, which would give a possible mining link.

Born abt 1814.
Father was Thomas Rowswell, shoemaker.
Married Caroline Evans 9 June 1845, St. Briavels.
Daughter Miriam Rowswall born 22 September 1845, Westbury-on-Trym.
Died 26 June 1870 St. Briavels following an accident at Oakwood Chemical Works (details of inquest available via this site).

Where was Thomas born and precisely when?
Where was he between 1845 and 1870?
