Eliza BROWN 1825 Cinderford (reply)

I am indebted to those who recorded and transcribed MIs here. It is a particularly valuable service for those of who have had their ancestors' graves and headstones set aside, or worse, and made inaccessible.

It would be of great interest to me know by what means and in what circumstances such inscriptions were saved.

My particular case concerns the grave of Joseph and Eliza McKuskey and Drybrook graveyard.

My sincere thanks to all who have been involved in saving these inscriptions.

Minister Schapiro Flaxley 1878 (reply)

I have just come across a transcript of a baptism at Flaxley in 1878 of an adult male
(who was born Jewish in 1816 in Russian Poland). The officiating Minister was A W Schapiro.
Can anyone suggest a background story to this event?

Eliza BROWN 1825 Cinderford (reply)

Joseph and Eliza McKUSKEY were buried at Holy Trinity Churchyard, Drybrook. Unfortunately their headstone was one of those removed and placed against the boundary walls of the churchyard in clearance work in the late 1970's. Subsequently, in the 1980's, they were "dumped" in various piles of headstones still in the churchyard, used for other purposes in some cases, or disappeared.

Their memorial inscription read: In loving memory of / Joseph McKuskey / who died Dec. 29th 1881 / aged 65 years. / For so he giveth his beloved sleep. / Also in memory of / Eliza, wife of the above / Joseph McKuskey / who died March 19th 1904 / aged 77 years.

MIs recorded by Julian Rawes of Cheltenham.
