Amazing what a new set of eyes will do :-))

I haven't seen this marriage entry before - even though I thought I'd looked extensively for it. I'll order the certificate as it seems likely to be the correct marriage.

has a feeling of Pontywain near Risca,
or Pontypwl / Pontypool or any number of small hamlets in Monmouthsire :-(

but needs more work - lets hope the Cert throws up an extra clue or two

Marriage of George Roberts and Catherine circa 1840

I am looking for the marriage of the above couple.

George was born in Lydbrook abt 1818.

He is in the 1841 census, living in Lydbrook with his wife Catherine and he is a tin plate worker.
Catherine lists her birthplace - in subsequent census - as (it looks like) Poutaydrines, Monmouthshire. I can't find any record for a marriage of this couple either in the GRO BMD records, or the transcribed parish records on this site.

So I'm making a big assumption that the couple married in her parish.

I can't find anything that looks like Poutaydrines - does anybody have any knowledge of it - or any insights they may be able to offer me ? I know nothing of the local geography.
