Absent Voters Lists - in connection with the Census (reply)

Absent/Postal votes were first used in WW1 for the forces and the lists of those exist but after that absent/postal votes were very restricted. You had to have a very good reason such as long term incapacity or a member of the forces but now anyone can have one without giving a reason and they now form about a fifth of the voting population.
These lists are never published but are by law given to political parties.

Evan Clement LLOYD 1877 - 1953 ? (reply)

Hello Slowhands and Michael,

Slowhands you have identified Evan Clement very accurately, this is
my Husband's Grandfather.

Evan's Father Thomas was Relieving Officer for Cheltenham. Evan's
eldest daughter was brought up and educated by Thomas. Evan was
married to Bertha Keyse from Long Hope and there are many connections
with the Forest Long Hope and in particular the Dawe's and Bright families.

Michael, I am going to check out further with Kelly's Directory with regard
to the shop it is possible that he could be connected with it as he
had many iron's in the fire, his main occupation was a compositor in
the printing trade.

But where was he when he should have been at home on the night of the
Census in 1911?.

This family is full of mystery Thomas Lloyd bn 15.11.1841 (Evan's Father) had
a brother Evan bn 1847 in Crickhowell and is noted by a member of the family
that he was lost at Sea, I am searching for any information relating to him.

also you give details of Evan's Military Service, the family know he was in
France and hospitalised there, but there is nothing in his military record
to say so - he was missing again.

Thank you for all your help.

Barbara

Absent Voters Lists - in connection with the Census

A family history magazine suggested that if you cannot find a relative on the
Census the answer might be in the Absent Voters List. I asked at the National Archives at Kew yesterday did they hold these records, and nobody could answer. Further investigation suggested that either the local Council or the County Record
Offices. - As I am looking for a missing relative in 1911 in Cheltenham
does anybody have any experience or suggestions to help.
