Mark Smith on war memorial in Coleford (reply)

Thank you so much for all this information I had all Walter and Rhoda's children from the 1911 census but not Mark as he was born too late to be on it.

Think I have this worked out correctly but Mark is my second cousin once removed! In other words his grandfather was my great granddad's brother.

Mark Smith on war memorial in Coleford (reply)

You need to give a few more details. Were his parents Walter and Rhoda Smith and his wife Clementine from Penault, Mon? If so you can find him on Commonwealth War Graves on the internet. He was with Oxford and Bucks Regiment and buried at Coriano Ridge War Cemetery. Sorry I have not got time to go further than this but he looks like the only Mark Smith from the right sort of area. You can check them all yourself if this is not right.

Mark Smith on war memorial in Coleford

Could anyone give me some pointers about how I might find out if a Mark Smith commemorated on the war memorial in Coleford Town centre (on the clock tower) is my great uncle? He died during WW2. I don't know which regiment he served in and I don't know who to contact to find out more detail about the inscriptions on the memorial. Any advice you could give would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Jo
