Susanna ROOK (reply)

Thank you for this, it seems to fit as she was still unmarried three years earlier when she was witness at Thomas's wedding. There is also the possibility of a Henry Rook who approximately fits this age. I have found two Henry Rooks before but was not sure whether they were definitely in the family tree.

PHILLIS WAS THOMAS' SECOND WIFE (reply)

Phillis was Thomas Rook's second wife as he was a widower when he married her. There is a record of someone with his name being married to an Elizabeth who died in 1797 in Newnham. I think he already had some children to this wife when he married Phillis: they may have been Anne, another Thomas (who is the Thomas from whom I descend).
Possibly also a Miriam. There was a Susannah Rook(e) too who is somehow related. The latter was a witness at my Thomas' wedding.

ROOK (reply)

Which Elizabeth Rook are you looking at? I have Elizabeth Mary Stead who married Thomas Rook (who I now think is the son of Thomas Rook and Phyllis). This Elizabeth was definitely born in 1786 and married Thomas Rook on 21st and 22nd February 1813 (two weddings one RC the other C of E to make it legal). There are so many Elizabeths in this family that you might be thinking of another one? Please clarify and I'll see what I can find from my other records if this one isn't the one you have in mind.

IGNORE THIS I'VE LOOKED AT THE INFORMATION AND REALISE WHICH ELIZABETH YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. IT MUST BE THE FLU WHICH CONFUSED ME!!!!

Fanny Vaughan (m Morgan) born Upper Forge (reply)

Thank you so much, I think you have solved my mystery! I really do appreciate this as I had been going round and round in circles with it. If Fanny Vaughan's mother was Rook before she was married I am pretty certain these are the right people. You've made my day and I needed something to cheer me up as I am recovering from having been ill with flu! Once more thank you so much for this.
Also the family seem to talk about Royal Oak Day a lot and the Royal Oak Pub might also have a significance here.
Finally the Kings are a family which members of my family spoke of and I have an old letter which speaks of Mr and Mrs. King being visited by Thomas Rook.

ROOK (reply)

As I understand it from the previous threads, Elizabeth Rook was born about 1798 but married in 1810. This would have made her only 12 at marriage. She does not appear to have had any children until 1814. Is it possible that there is a recording or transcription error here somewhere? Or have I got it all wrong?

Fanny Vaughan (m Morgan) born Upper Forge (reply)

From the above thread it would appear that you are right about the 2 Fanny Morgans.

Johnson's is somewhere near Phipps Bottom; if you look up people in Whitecroft on the 1871 census Johnson's is adjacent to Phipps Bottom, I think I recall deciding it was between Phipps Bottom and Pillowell level.

Fanny Vaughan (m Morgan) born Upper Forge (reply)

I too have an interest in Fanny Morgan nee Vaughan as she is my great great great grandmother. Her son Henry also married a Frances (Thomas) at Newnham on 25 August 1867. I think this Fanny Morgan could be the one who died aged 56 in October 1897. I was interested to note that you say Johnsons where she was living with her son-in- law on 1871 census is Phipps Bottom, I wondered where it was.

Using The Search Form (reply)

Anne

No - I haven't research this before

Apart from checking the Gloucestershire Baptism Index CD from 1813.

FOD records

I just went through the baptism around that time - if you put the sign % (possibly with V%) in the surname box (this is listed under : Using The Search Form - Search Tips)- with christian name FANNY - this comes up with all the baptisms for that year, or either side plus/minus how ever many years you want to cover.
