JESSOP family Parkend 1920 - 1948 (reply)

Hi!
I too have been tracing the last resting place of my grandmother and great grandmother both buried in the lower church yard at St. Paul's, Parkend. They are, Eva Annie Williams and Elizabeth Williams. Just wondered if, by any chance, the person you were looking for could have the same name. It's a bit of a long shot but worth posing the question, I thought.
Regards,

JESSOP family Parkend 1920 - 1948 (reply)

Hi Tony, in reference to cemetery plans for St Pauls Parkend, at the Glos Archives Office there is a plan of the graves around the church showing plot numbers, but no cross references to say who is buried where. Many of the headstones have been removed as they were unsafe. There are also chronological listings of burials at the office for the 2 other graveyards, but no actual plans of who is buried where. Last year on a family visit to Parkend (I am a Parkend boy, now living in Sydney Australia) we were able to locate the burial plot of a great aunt of mine who was buried in an unmarked grave by relating her grave plot to other named plots in the same chronological area of the graveyard - it worked for us, maybe it will work for you?!, Based on the dates you list, I would think you need to be looking in the graveyard below the church through the lytch gate.
I hope this helps you!?
regards, PEG

JESSOP family Parkend 1920 - 1948 (reply)

Hi Tony

There was a Maternity Unit at Lydney Hospital, which is only a short distance from Parkend. If the Birth and Death were registered in Lydney then it would come under the Chepstow Registration District as did St Briavels, Woolaston and Aylburton.

Hi Tony :)

the burial on here states thae Paul was 3 days old when he died, so not actually buried same day as death.

the death is also reg at Chepstow.. could he have been born at local hospital there, or family staying in the area. Maybe he was born in the hospital and died there too, but brought back to Parkend for burial? the birth/death certs would probably explain it, but would mean sending for them...ouch... way too pricey these days;)

JESSOP family Parkend 1920 - 1948

Good afternoon

My Great Aunt Ena Mary Jessop (nee Parry) gave birth to a son Paul, on 29th July 1934.

The birth is registered in Chepstow.

Unfortunately the death of baby Paul was registered on 1st August and he appears to have been buried on the same day at St Pauls (Parkend)

My Questions are:-

1. Why would the birth be registerd in Chepstow, I believe Monmouth was the registration district for the forest?

2. Are burials on the same day as the death common?

3. Are there any burial plot records for St Pauls (Cemetry plan)?

Thanks for your help

Kind Regards

Tony Jenkins
