I haven't been able to track his death yet, its too common a name with too many permutations :-(

I know it was between 1927 and 1942, but thats all I know. I can't even be sure it was in the forest, as I have no record of them after 1927. My grandfather moved to London at some point, marrying my Nan there in 1942. Whether he left alone or the whole family went, I have no idea. :-(

Definite - DNA probably the only way but pretty hard to apply in hindsight :-)

"most probable" or "best fit" - I guess you'll just have to trust the experience and instinct of others until such time as other evidence either adds weight to this or destroys it... Family bibles, wills/ probate etc

The address and combination John/Bert narrows this down even with the Jones surname :-)

Do you have his death cert ? if the birth date ( if given) is the same then that would tend to add more weight.

I have a marriage certificate here, details:

I am trying to find Birt and his family on the 1901, 1911 census but I can't find any families that look even remotely right.

Out of interest, where would the register office have been?
