Whittington family of Alverton (reply)

The George Whittington who married Mirrium Yemm born 1850 at Drybrook 26 Jan 1867 was born Lydbrook 1846 baptised English Bicknor 29 Mar 1846, George & Mirrium had 9 children, George was the son of James Whittington 1809/12 Feb 1888 & Hannah Horsham 1819/1891. Mirrium Yemm was the daughter of Amos Baldwin Yemm 1819/1881 & Rebecca Marfell 1816. As a Marfell I have the marriage certificate for Rebecca.

Hannah Horsham died 1891 buried Drybrook 13 Oct. She had been James Whittington's second wife, his first Hannah Hale 1814/1884. Note James remarried to Hannah Horsham whilst his first wife still alive. He had 7 children with his first wife Hannah Hale

Mirrium Yemm died Feb 1883 and buried Drybrook 18 Feb. George Whittington then remarried in 1885 to Widow Fanny Bennett nee Bennett 1855. He had 6 children with her.

George Whittington siblings:
Brother Henry Horsham Whittington 1849 (note the association with mother's maiden name) who married Hannah Gough and they 7 children and emigrated to USA - he died 27 May 1902 Carbondale, Lackawana, Penn. USA.
At the 1851 census he was 2, living with his family in East Dean.
At the 1861 census he was 12 (collier) living with his family in East Dean. At the 1871 census he was 22 (coal miner) living with his parents and brother Richard in East Dean. 1881 Census

Brother Richard Edward 1851 married Elizabeth Yemm 1855, she was the daughter of William Yemm 1827/25 Jan 1901 & Elizabeth Marfell 1826/19 Jan 1906 - as a Marfell I have her marriage certificate, her picture is also on this web site - with her parents - a more cheerful person you would have a job to meet !!
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/gallery/ruardean_2/pages/page_17.html
At the 1861 census Richard 9 (scholar) was living with his parents and siblings in East Dean. At the 1871 census Richard 19 (coal miner) was still living in East Dean with his parents and siblings. Following his death an Inquest was held on 17th April 1875 Conclusion - Crushed by the falling of a 17 cwt bell in the Lowery Vein, Trafalgar Mine.

Sister Mary Ann 1854 married Henry Thompson Fenwick 1858 they had 2 children and emigrated to USA : At the 1881 census Henry 22 (blacksmith) and Mary Ann 26 were living in East Dean. Henry appears on the 1900 US census in Lackawanna, Pennsylvania.
There is of course a Marfell element; Henry Thompson Fenwick had a brother William Taylor Fenwick born 1861 Co. Durham who married Sophia Dora Marfell born 18 May 1858.

George Whittington Census info :

Thanks Gilly2, it seems I had the dob of george wrong as I held it as 1852 and your records show it must have been c. 1846. The wife Miriam fits in with a name used in the family. Good job well done. Thanks
