Many thanks - that's the one census record I couldn't find for Charles and Sarah - not surprising given the spelling.

Thanks for that. Looks like his mother turned up as a niece living with Charles and Sarah in 1881, and Fred's shown as a Greenway (son) in 1891 and a Watkins (nephew) in 1901. Suggests that Elizabeth came to live with them, but ended up in the workhouse - a bit wayward perhaps! Looking at an Elizabeth Watkins born 1869 Cardiff (as suggested in the census), she may be the daughter of George Watkins and Abia Rudge, but George died in 1869 and Abia subsequently remarried a Nathan Keen in 1870. George did have a sister named Sarah born in Ganarew in 1837/8 - but since various years are suggested by censuses over her life who knows. If this is the same one then her parents are Thomas watkins and Martha.

Thanks "slowhands". The dates in all records where she's linked to Charles Greenway seem to suggest 1830/1, so whilst she may be the one shown in the earlier records the dates don't link up too well. However, the Fred Watkins nephew mention in the first one might be a useful hint for me to explore further since I may be able to locate her parents that way (based on the assumption that he's likely to be a son of her brother). Thanks & I'll post again here if I manage to track her down with any greater degree of certainty.

I'm trying to find any information about the parentage of my 2xGt Grandmother Sarah Watkins (b1830/1, Ganarew) who married Charles Green(a)way (b1827, Bicknor) in 1856. I can't seem to locate her in the censuses of 1841 or 1851, and so am unable to trace anything about her parents. Can anyone help? Thanks, Nikki
