Hi David,
Thankyou so much for the information you passed to me.I have only just started researching my family tree and have a huge amount to sort through correctly after using ancestry.com to get started. It is lovely to hear from you as I have not got many details of the Brown/ hook family at all.Tom Brown was my grandfather and I have very little information about him.I was wondering if you have information of their other siblings also

Many Thanks

James Brown and Rhoda Hook (reply)

Hi Gill,

Thank you for the very comprehensive information, especially them living in Upper Row & Lower Row in Whitecroft, concerning Elijah Wintle & Matilda Hook.
I see Elijah Wintle is showing on my tree, as my 2nd Great Grandfather.
I presume that you already have his Baptism details on 14th September 1834 at Parkend & his burial details 18th April 1914 at Cinderford St.Johns.
You are correct about Matilda, married George Guest 11th June 1859 & Rhoda married James Brown in 1875 at Bream Chapel.
I have expanded my tree now to include the Wintle Family.
If I can help you with your Family Tree, please don't hesitate to ask.

Best Regards

David Brown. (Cornwall,UK.)

James Brown and Rhoda Hook (reply)

Hi

This might through some light on the Father of Rhonda.
I have been given this information on good authority from a Wintle family member. i.e. Birth cert viewed.
Elijah was my G Grandfather who married Martha Price 1859.

In 1851 Matilda (aged 12) was living with her parents at Upper Row, Whitecroft. Elijah and family were living at
Lower Row. Elijah was aged 16.

Rhoda WINTLE OR HOOK-3046 was born 3 Nov 1856 in Whitecroft, West Dean, Gloucestershire, England.

Elijah Wintle is given as her father on the birth certificate.

Elijah WINTLE-20 was born1 1834 in Whitecroft, Gloucestershire, England and was christened2 14 Sep 1834 in Parkend, Gloucestershire, England. He died3 13 Apr 1914 in Oldcroft, Gloucestershire, England.

I can fill in information re the Wintle family.
Ancestry search looks as if Matilda married George Guest 1859 and Rhonda then used his name but I have not spent a great deal of time researching Matilda and Rhonda so happy to be proven incorrect.

Cheers Gill (NZ )

I have uploaded my latest tree to Ancestry, when they have released it I will send you an email, as it is not public.

I hope this is of some use to you and would be pleased to share any information
