I have William Symonds b 1810 Ireland married to Sarah Taysom/e of Arlingham b 1807, Im led to believe that Williams' father was also called William but no record of Williams' birth or the name of his mother, though it could possibly be Sarah.

Finding it hard to research Williams birth so far as I have no access to the Irish records. I'm sure it's possible that William and Sarah were parents of William, my GGG Grandfather, although William also went on to marry a Sarah... is it too much of a coincidence?

As my GGG Grandfather William was grown up and married to Sarah by the time the first census was taken in 1841, I haven't found any way of confirming who his parent's actually were.

Cannot find any definite record of their marriage either, unless I have missed some info posted above!

If Thomas was a child of William and Sarah (poss my GGGG Grandparents) then this would make him Williams' brother, who was possibly born in England rather than Ireland, like
William. As Thomas' father William was a widow, it could be that he had come over to England and met Sarah.

Will have a think about all of this and try to piece it together!

Hi Brifield,

I can't seem to see any connection with your Elizabeth Symonds and my Elizabeth Symonds born around 1821.

Mine features at a different address in the 1841 census and am not actually sure how the Elizabeth I have relates to the William in my tree, says she lived next door so sure she is connected somehow.

Also haven't found a Moses in my tree at all, as yet! Altho, the Symonds/Symmonds/Simons/Simmonds family will surely have a massive family tree & they could well be connected somewhere down the line!

Like you I am new to this , but I read your bit about the Simmons and wondered wether
what I have might help.
When researching my family the Mathews, Ifound a Moses Mathews Living with Moses
Simmons and Elizabeth Simmons, born c 1791/2.
I have a feeling that they are the parents of Elizabeth, but am not sure. If thats the case somewhere along the line we must have a connection.
My mothers family lived in the same area.

Hi slowhands,
I wonder if there is a connection with the lady I have. Her name is Elizabeth
Simmons born c 1792, she was married to Moses Simmons born c 1791 that is according to ancestry year 1861 census.
I have to admit I am new to all this, and need help with my side of the family.
They are the Mathews. my mother was Nellie Mathews born 1905. when trying to trace
her ancesters I come to a stop.
The spelling confuses me the are two ways of the spelling of Mathews/ Matthews.
Anyway somehow I land up finding aaaa Moses Mathews living with Moses & elizabeth Simmons. there,s got to be a story there somewhere, and I hope to solve it soon.

Thanks again to mp griffiths,
I have been looking into William Simons/Symonds/Symmonds and Sarah, to try and find confirmation of her maiden name as it is not on the parish records of the children's births.
Everything points to Sarah's maiden name being Taysom/e as mp griffiths suggested.
The free Glos BMD index has Aron Symonds b 1841 as mother's maiden name Taysom, as well as Elizabeth b 1847 & Matilda (who was born in 1844 and died around 2 weeks old).
These are definite children of my William and Sarah, so it seems the link is there.

Thanks for taking the time to check this over for me, I greatly appreciate it.

It backs up everything I thought so far & more.

I also was unsure of William and Sarah Manning, although someone else has a public tree on a site saying it is Sarah Manning, with her father being Thomas Manning. I had difficulty in finding the maiden name from any records so didn't just presume!

They also had William Simmonds as William Simmonds' father, but I cannot see where or how they confirmed this information, I couldn't back that up from any records I've seen. That's one of the very reasons I have looked into everything myself and didn't want to use info from someone else's research!

The 1911 census data is new on me though, that's added another 2 step-siblings on Grandads tree. At last count that would make at least 15 definitely confirmed siblings and step-siblings! Absolutely fascinating. I wonder how on earth they managed?

Do you know if there are any official records available online regarding mining in the Forest? Seems Henry Aaron was from a long line of Colliers, and would love to find some further info on this also.

I am not "happy" with the 1840 marriage of a William and Sarah Manning in Ross for Aaron's parents. Its too late and feels too far away from Newent / Arlingham.
