James POWMPHRE - 1551 Will Newham (reply)

I'd love to take a look at some of the information you've found on the Pomphrey name. I really don't have too much information earlier than the late 1800's. There are some details about my great-great grandfather (Edwin Austin Francis Pomphrey) in a book that I have in my house. I'll have to find it and share if anyone's interested. Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

WOW! Very impressive
My line is the same but I derive from William Pomphrey's (1798-1861)third son Edwin rather than Luke.
Do you have proofs of the eary lineage?I woud be realy interested in having copies or the referneces to get them myself for the descendants pre Mathew Pomfrey (d 1569).
By the by do you have a normal e-mail address and I will send a word docuemnt detailing all the Pedigree for which I (so far) have proof.

Hiya,
I am also from that same line! Georges and Elizabeths son Philip and from there am descended from his son Matthew (born 1631) How interesting. I have tried to "translate" some limited wills etc but it is hard going to say the least. I'm currently trying to find evidence of George's Grandfather. I know there was a Richard pomphrey mentioned in the Militia Muster in 1522 but need to find further proofs etc.

James POWMPHRE - 1551 Will Newham (reply)

Thanks very much indeed, I really appreciate it. the information on James which I think is Matthew's yournger brother seems to have been missed due to the different spelling. I'll have to try and study it to see if it leads me to their father.

I think that their father might be Richard Pomfrey listed in the 1522 Military Survey of Gloucestershire but can't quite get the confirmation!

I have read of another Richard Pomfrey who was a weaver that sold a mill near Chestnuts Hill near LittleDean in 1577 and I think that was the eldest of the three brothers (Richard, Matthew and James) rather than the father but I have a feeling that I may have reached the end of my search unless I get a lucky break from kind assistance like yours

Thanks again

Pomphrey (Pomfrey) Family from Newnham 16th Century

Hello,
I have recently traced my direct family line back to Matthew Pomphrey (Sometimes spelt Pomfrey) who was married 6th August 1558 in Newnham and died in 1569. I expect that this (along with his siblings Richard, Margaret and James) is as far as I am likely be able to get however I wondered if anyone had any further information from previous research going further back?
I also would be especially interested in where specifically they may have lived, Ruddle Manor is frequently mentioned in their records which I know is very nearby but I am thinking of visiting Newnham at one point so it woud be lovely to see exactly where they were from, understanding of course that this may be very unlikely to clarify at this point after so long!
Thank you in advance
