Samuel Evans, by trade a weaver, was born in the Parish of Minchinhampton in or near the Town of Minchinhampton in the County of Gloucester and was ATTESTED for the 61st Regiment of Foot at Gloucester in the County of Gloucester on the 15th day of July 1823 at the age of 17 years that after making every Deduction required by Her Majesty’s Regulations , up to this day, which he is entitled to reckon, amounts to 21 year and 40 days, as shewn by the detailed statement on the second page; during which period he served abroad 11, 11/12 years viz Ceylon 11, 11/12, the remainder at home

and further, that his DISCHARGE is proposed in consequence of being unfit for further service Authority dated House Guards.

With regard to the CHARACTER and CONDUCT OF NO. 251 Sergt Samuel Evans, the Board have to report, that upon reference to the Defaulters Book and by the Parole testimony that has been given that his conduct and character have been very good.

Corporal 25th May 1830 – 18th April 1839
Serjeant 19th April 1839 – 22nd August 1845

MEDICAL REPORT. I certify that Sergeant Samuel Evans 61st Regiment suffers from Chronic Hepatitis, disease of left testicle and varicose veins in both legs……………………..Signed, Senior Medical Officer, 23 Sept 1845.

You are very welcome. I should add that there is a description of him which I omitted to include:-

Age: 40
Height: 5ft 7 inches
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Hazel
Complexion: Fair
Trade: Weaver

There is also a reference to a payment of 2s. dated 15/1/56“ in ????? for ????? contracted in the Ambulance Corps.

There is another note, dated 14/8/72“ Acc to daughter as ?????? of father who died 8/1/70.
