Grinder Street, Monmouth (General)

I have an ancestor Henry Collins who is listed as a fishmonger of Grinder Street in Pigot's Directory of 1830 and also on his own marriage certificate of 1842. In the 1851 census he is in Glendower Street.
Is this the same street, and if so when was the name changed? Or was it a street which has disappeared, in which case where was it?

Henry COLLINS appears to have the same neighbours both on the 1841/1851 census who haven't moved i.e. Mary WOOLETT - 60 Lady /Joseph GAITESHILL etc -

District 1 - Monmouthshire 1841

'All that part of Monnow Street Ward in the Town on Monmouth which lies to the South of Monnow Street

In the 1851 census he is in Glendower Street.

Also in 1841 census near Glendower St

There are/were a number of passages running off Monnow St that may have included a Grinder St - need to get an old map out just in case its marked :-)

Glendower St is probably named after Owain Glyndŵr anglicised by William Shakespeare as Owen Glendower

I have since discovered that it IS the same street - the name was bowdlerised when the Wye Valley tourist rade took off

In the BNA the first mention of Glendower Street is in 1838 and the last mention of Grinder Street is in 1846 (apart from two later historical references). I wonder if this reflects the refusal of some die-hards to recognise the change!

Thanks for the update, and especially introducing me to a great word I'd never heard before, "bowdlerised".
Love it, thanks "Bood".
