Advice on Images in posts (Announce)

Hi all

There was a brief discussion on a recent thread about how it might be possible to include an image in a post.

In part this is covered by our Acceptable Use Policy where we say

Using the Forum implies acceptance of the following terms and conditions:

Participants shall not post any material likely to cause offence, that is protected by copyright, trademark or other proprietary right - without the express permission of the owner of such copyright - or that contains personal phone numbers, addressesor email addresses.

Participants may not use the forum to post or transmit advertisements or commercial solicitations of any kind.

The Forum Administrator has the right to edit, censor, delete or otherwise modify any posted message.

We have disabled the option to include an image directly in a post. There are two main reasons for doing so:

  • inclusion of images can quickly place a significant demand on our server space;
  • there are risks in relation to breach of copyright and other rights.

It remains possible to use the general capacity add a link in a post to refer to an image on another site. That deals with the first point - the load on the server - but it does not overcome the second risk - of infringing private rights.

So please:

IF YOU CONSIDER LINKING TO IMAGES TAKE PARTICULAR CARE THAT YOU ARE NOT BREACHING ANY RIGHTS OF OTHERS

If you have photographs or other images that are of general interest we are happy to place them on the web site.

Regards

Paul
