There is a birth registration as follows:
Child Surname Child Forename Mother's Former Name Year District Office Register Entry
WILLIAMS Albert REED 1872 Forest of Dean Monmouth, Coleford 29 147

This tells us the birth was registered at Coleford Register Office which has been closed for some years and that his mother's maiden name is REED.

We then find a marriage on 22 February 1864 between John Worrey/Warrey Williams and Adelaide Reed at St John's Church, Cinderford. Full details in the Parish Registers on this site. This entry confirms that Adelaide is the daughter of Isaiah.

This is the Williams family in the 1871 Census:
1871 England, Wales & Scotland Census
Lydbrook, West Dean, Monmouth, Gloucestershire, England
Household members (6 people)
First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Age Birth year Occupation Birth place
John Warry Williams Head - Male 26 1845 - Gloucestershire, England
Adelaide Williams Wife - Female 28 1843 - Gloucestershire, England
Clara Williams Daughter - Female 6 1865 - Gloucestershire, England
Celia Williams Daughter - Female 4 1867 - Gloucestershire, England
Esau Warry Williams Son - Male 2 1869 - Gloucestershire, England
Oliver Williams Son - Male 2mons 1871 - Gloucestershire, England

John Warry Williams was a Collier and Local Methodist Preacher

Sadly John Warry Williams died and was buried on 5 January 1873 at Lydbrook. Full details in the Parish Registers.

Adelaide subsequently married George Blackbourne at a Register Office in 1877.

We find Adelaide's Baptism in the Parish Registers. It took place on 5 March 1843 at Drybrook. Parents Isaiah and Elizabeth. Her birth does not seem to have been registered and we next find her in the 1851 Census as follows:
1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census
Ruardean Hill,East Dean, Gloucestershire, England
Household members (9 people)
First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Age Birth year Occupation Birth place
Isaiah Read Head Married Male 33 1818 Coal miner East Dean, Gloucestershire, England
Elizabeth Read Wife Married Female 31 1820 - Ruardean, Gloucestershire, England
Thomas Brookshaw Son Unmarried Male 12 1839 Coal miner Ruardean, Gloucestershire, England
Richard Read Son Unmarried Male 10 1841 - East Dean, Gloucestershire, England
Adelaide Read Daughter Unmarried Female 8 1843 - East Dean, Gloucestershire, England
John Read Son Unmarried Male 6 1845 - East Dean, Gloucestershire, England
Mary Anne Read Daughter Unmarried Female 4 1847 - East Dean, Gloucestershire, England
Isaiah Read Son Unmarried Male 2 1849 - East Dean, Gloucestershire, England
George Read Son Unmarried Male 0 1851 - East Dean, Gloucestershire, England

The following birth registrations tell us that Elizabeth's maiden name is BROOKSHAW so Thomas was born before Elizabeth married Isaiah on 5 May 1839 at Flaxley Parish Church. He was baptised on 10 February 1839 at Ruardean Parish Church. We assume he subsequently took the name of REED/READ.

In 1871 we find him at Hope Mansell,
First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Age Birth year Occupation Birth place
Phoebe Roberts Head - Female 69 1802 - Gloucestershire, England
Thomas Read Boarder - Male 32 1839 - Gloucestershire, England
William Read Grandson - Male 11 1860 - Herefordshire, England
Howard Read Grandson - Male 6 1865 - Herefordshire, England

Howard's birth registration confirms that his mother's maiden names ROBERTS:
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
READ, HOWARD ROBERTS
GRO Reference: 1864 D Quarter in ROSS Volume 06A Page 426

We find William's birth is registered as follows:
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
BROOKSHAW, WILLIAM ROBERTS
GRO Reference: 1860 J Quarter in ROSS Volume 06A Page 406

And parents marriage:
Marriages Mar 1860
Roberts Sophia Ross 6a 597
Brookshaw Thos Ross 6a 597

Followed by his mother's death:
Deaths Mar 1871
BROOKSHAW Sophia 33 Ross 6a 357

As mentioned earlier we assume that Thomas took the Surname of REED/READ and it would appear that it was subsequent to the death of his wife.

She was buried at Drybrook on 26 March 1871 and baptised on 24 September 1837 at Drybrook. Parents Aaron and Phoebe Roberts. See Parish Registers

Albert Edward WILLIAMS born 1872 Cinderford

by Barrie Williams, Wednesday, December 29, 2021, 11:23 (820 days ago) @ shepway

Thanks.
I had never found the birth registration of Albert Williams.
all the other information i had previously seen.
I had also seen that Mary Ann Reed had married A George Sleeman but had later returned to her parents home alone in 1871 census.
I have long suspected that an affair/dalliance took place between Mary Reed and John Warry Williams(her brother-in-law) but could find no proof. The name John Warry Williams just sticks in my head from childhood, just as the name Blackburn is remembered as friends of the family in Castleford.
Once again, many thanks for your troubles.
