Crikey Mike, talk abt good timing, just as I start compiling an answer you double- trump me, and with census facts to back up my surmising. MANY thanks kind sir !

Just to add looking at the many "Daniel Barrows" PRs shown in this site's database, they're all in the Longney side of the River apart from one, which suggests to me that's the Barrow's original home area even before Daniel b1805. I see his wife's from that same eastern side of the River too.

However his son Daniel was baptised in Blaisdon, suggesting this branch of the Barrows were living there by 1832, presumably to find work in the orchards etc ?.

In my experience I've seen families willing/able to travel quite large distances from their "new" place of residence back to their "home" Parish for Baptisms, especially with the coming of the GWR, presumably for reasons of family tradition & convenience to elders still living "back" home. However in these pre 1840s years before the railways, especially across the River that trip would have been less likely, hence I guess this branch of the family stayed in their "new home" area of Blaisdon where they were hopefully happily settled.

Then again, of course, sadly some families split-up and move due to differences rather than purely practical reasons, your guess is as good as mine(or probably better!).

Hope this helps, Jeff.

PS this site's a very usefull guide to all the various Census' and how to interprete them.

The 1841 Census tells us that he was living in Blaisdon and does not tells us where the occupants are born other than whether in the County or not.
This is the household:
Daniel Barrow 35 1806 Male Blaisdon Gloucestershire England
Hannah Barrow 35 1806 Female Blaisdon Gloucestershire England
Sarah Barrow 11 1830 Female Blaisdon Gloucestershire England
Daniel Barrow 9 1832 Male Blaisdon Gloucestershire England
David Barrow 7 1834 Male Blaisdon Gloucestershire England
Hannah Barrow 5 1836 Female Blaisdon Gloucestershire England
Mary Barrow 3 1838 Female Blaisdon Gloucestershire England
Thomas Critchley 20 1821 Male Gloucestershire England
Thomas Hancocks 20 1821 Male Gloucestershire England
Ann Hancocks 20 1821 Female Gloucestershire England
William Hancocks 25 1816 Male Gloucestershire England

In the 1851 Census the Surname is written as Barrett and transcribed as such!!
The family were in Blaisdon and here is the household:

House Number Given Name Surname Relationship Age Estimated Birth Year Gender Birth Place
22 Daniel Barrett Head 46 1805 M Longney, Gloucestershire, England
22 Hannah Barrett Wife 46 1805 F Arlingham, Gloucestershire, England
22 Sarah Probyn Daughter 23 1828 F Blaisdon, Gloucestershire, England
22 N K Visitor 18 1833 F Aston Ingham, Herefordshire, England
22 Hannah Barnett Daughter 14 1837 F Blaisdon, Gloucestershire, England
22 Mary Barnett Daughter 12 1839 F Blaisdon, Gloucestershire, England
22 Thomas Barnett Son 12 1839 M Blaisdon, Gloucestershire, England
22 Abigal Barnett Daughter 9 1842 F Blaisdon, Gloucestershire, England
22 John Barnett Son 5 1846 M Blaisdon, Gloucestershire, England
22 William Barnett Son 11 Mo 1850 M Blaisdon, Gloucestershire, England

From this you can see that Daniel's birthplace is given as Longney.

Mike
